Thursday, July 4
Salem Celebrates the Fourth, 4 to 10 p.m., Salem Maritime Historic Site, Derby Wharf. Festivities begin with the opening of Kids’ Space, featuring face painting, games, crafts and prizes for children, and live music from Britannica followed by Julie Dougherty. Opening ceremonies at 7:15 p.m., followed by a performance by the Hillyer Festival Orchestra; fireworks display at 9:15 p.m. 978-745-9595 or www.salem.com.

Marblehead Fireworks and Harbor Illumination 2013, 8:45 p.m., around perimeter of Marblehead Harbor. Flares will be lit around the perimeter of the harbor for the Harbor Illumination at 8:45 p.m. About 9 p.m., fireworks will be launched off a barge at the mouth of the harbor. Beverly Farms Shoreline Illumination & Fireworks, 9 p.m., West Beach. Tickets for the Farms-Prides Fireworks are available for $10 before July 4 at Farms-Prides merchants or $15 at the gate on July 4. General admission begins at 5 p.m. for those who are not members of West Beach. No parking at the beach; parking is limited along local streets. The sky will be bursting with color as the North Shore celebrates Independence Day. The following towns will launch firework displays for everyone to watch:

Wednesday, July 3
Danvers Fireworks Festival, 5 to 10:30 p.m. at Plains Park, Holten Richmond Middle School, 55 Conant St. Part of Danvers Family Festival. Includes live music, rides, food, games, patriotic program, raffle and fireworks display. Bring blankets and chairs. Rain date, July 5. 

Swampscott Fireworks, 7 p.m., fireworks display begins at dusk. Humphrey Street will be closed beginning at 7 p.m., and parking on the ocean side of Humphrey Street, from the Lynn line to Red Rock Bistro, will be prohibited from 7 to 10 p.m. http://www.town.swampscott.ma.us/public_documents/index.
